McRae Art Studios, located in Winter Park, FL., has selected landscape painter Gary Rupp as a Visiting Artist for six months. Rupp will work on his art in an individual studio at McRae from Jan. 1-June 30, sharing his ideas and techniques with McRae’s artists and learning from them as well.

Rupp, a Winter Park resident who says “color is my passion,” creates landscapes with pastels, working directly from nature. He has participated in “paint out” events in Winter Park, Wekiva Springs Park and Canaveral National Seashore, and his work has been exhibited in Central Florida and in juried pastel exhibits in North Carolina.

After minoring in art at Wheaton College, Rupp chose pastels as his medium, continuing his education by studying under Maggie Price, Albert Handell, Terri Ford, Doug Dawson and Michael Chesley Johnson.

McRae instituted the Visiting Artist Program to give selected local, national or international artists a chance to be part of the McRae artist community for three to six months and to stimulate new ideas among member artists.
