About the Artist
Stephen was formally trained as a painter and illustrator at Pratt Institute . In 1985 an invitation to paint a mural in a local upstart Italian restaurant led him on a 15 year painting adventure with what became The Olive Garden. He hand painted approximately 1500 murals in 490 restaurants in 47 states.
In 2000 he pursued his long term goal of being a fine art landscape painter. He works in oil on canvas and has become known for capturing the serenity of the landscape while pushing the effects of color and light.

Around the Studio
This is an assignment that doesn’t come often. Three identical paintings commissioned as family gifts from the client. Not the easiest task but I painted them simultaneously to keep colors and process consistent. Now waiting for frames, they should be ready soon.
A look back to 2016 and a big transition between two studios. After 18 years my studio collective lost our building lease and were forced to find a new home. Fortunately a generous community leader stepped up to purchase a building and convert it to a stellar studio/gallery space. For the six month interval between spaces we were relinquished to our homes or garages. It made us even more appreciative of our new well lit, climate controlled space. We are now McRae Art Studios at Arlington Arts.
