At McRae Art Studios, we were thrilled that Full Sail University Film student, Mikeith Campbell (@dreamersguildproductions), chose to interview several of our Member Artists for his documentary short, Stealing Inspiration: Artists’ Views on Challenges, Finding Inspiration, and Stealing Ideas. He asked us to reflect on Picasso’s famous quote: “Good artists borrow, great artists steal.” But his broader mission was to help up-and-coming artists hear from established professional artists about the way external inspirations influence their work consciously and unconsciously.
In addition to this 7-minute video, he hopes to produce an extended cut, with interviews from other McRae Artists and additional reflections on this rich topic.
Mikeith was born in Cleveland, Ohio. As a child, he was involved in many different forms of artistic expression, including choir and performing in numerous plays and productions. Though he had always loved film, like many artists, fear and lack of educational opportunities led him to get a Business Administration degree. But his love of cameras and visual productions continued to grow, until three years ago he and his family made the big leap to come to Orlando, Florida so he could attend Full Sail University. He is working toward a BA in Film, and the experience he’s gained has helped clarify his mission. He loves storytelling and the film documentary genre. His overall goal is to inspire and motivate artists of this generation and the next. Keith is married with three kids and an AKC registered Sharpei named Kiara.
